New Zealand Warriors 5/8 James Maloney has inspired us here at TC Ink to rush back the Covell Award. His round 19 game overall on Friday night could be a Covell Award nomination. His 3 missed goal kicks directly contributed to the Warriors’ 2 point defeat to Brisbane. His general play kicking was also brilliantly sub standard.

The actual nomination is for this penalty goal attempt just prior to half time, with the scores locked at 8 all. From right in front, Maloney decided it was time he added himself to the list of Covell award nominees and I’m sure he would be chuffed with his effort.

Ironically the Broncos were the ones to kick a penalty goal in the 2nd half, which ultimately won the game for them 10-8. It is a case of what could have been for the Warriors had Maloney not had his mind set on the prestigious Covell Award.
